Nouakchott, 22/12/2018 - Several agreements and decisions relating to the promotion and development of the Great Tortue / Ahmeyim field for the production and commercialization of gas from the coastal basin have been signed this morning at Nouakchott Conferences Palace.
The project’s conventions were signed by the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, represented by the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Republic of Senegal represented by the Ministries of Petroleum and Planning, British Petroleum and Cosmos Energy.
The Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines appreciated the work of the various parties that enabled the signing of the final investment decision (FID) document by the companies controlling the exploitation of the field, BP and Kosmos Energy.
This significant progress of the gas project demonstrates more than ever that Mauritania has the security, stability and international confidence that has enabled it to launch projects of this magnitude.
Through its gas production and export project, Mauritania aspires to become a strategic regional hub for gas-related industries with the potential to cover its needs in domestic gas and energy requirements to secure and lead the strategic stakes associated with the country’s future industrial transformation.
